Woodland's Maggie Mae (1989-2007)
9/7/07 UPDATE We are very saddened to report the loss tonight of our much beloved broodmare Woodland's Maggie Mae. Maggie was a TB/Wel (VPBA registered) and the foundation of our Avallach breeding program. She produced Quilline Tica and Random Chance, both bred by Cornelia Agnew, before joining us, then produced Avallach's Irish Rose, Avallach's Last Call, Avallach's Whiskey River, Avallach's Irish Coffee and Avallach's Paddy Girl by our stallion. She was a beautiful and sweet natured mare who was always the favorite of any children visiting our farm. She will be very much missed.
Woodland's
Maggie Mae is a Virginia Pony Breeders Association (VPBA #89129)
registered
mare foaled 05/29/1989. She is bay roan with no other markings and
stands 13.3 hands. She is the foundation of our breeding program and
is the "Queen" of Caer Avallach Farm.
Maggie's
foals are all very affectionate and people-oriented, just like their
mother! Due to an accident at age 3 Maggie was never able to compete
and is crippled in one leg, although she passes wonderful movement
on to her foals.
All
of Maggie's foals also have a very laid back and calm temperament
and are very curious and people-oriented. Maggie came to us through
Cornelia Agnew of Vermont (thank you Cornelia!).
Prior
to coming to us Maggie produced a number of fine Welsh cross foals,
one of which was purchased by us named Random Chance.
Chance was by the Welsh stallion Rofantina Gold Sovereign and has
matured into a fantastically talented dressage horse. He was purchased
in 2006 by Fie Andersen who has brought him along in the dressage
ring under trainer David Collins.
While
here at Caer Avallach Farm, Maggie has produced five fabulous foals
for us by Avallach's Irish Whiskey. The first, Avallach's
Irish Rose, was foaled in 2000 and was a Devon ribbon winner
as a yearling. Rose is currently competing as a hunter pony in SC
with trainer Katie Maxwell.
The second
foal she produced for us is Avallach's Last Call,
a bay roan colt purchased en utero by the Payne Family of Foxwater
Farm in Thomasville, GA. "LC" is expecting his first crop of foals as a stallion prospect
for the Payne's.
In
2005 Maggie produced Avallach's Whiskey River, a
strapping chestnut colt that is just a beautiful mover and well-built.
"Willie" now resides with Anna Pavlov of NY and is looking
forward to a future in the hunter ring.
In 2006
Maggie once again foaled a bay roan, this time a filly named Avallach's
Irish Coffee ("Latte"). She is now a yearling and
enjoying hanging out with her older sister Lily. Latte
reminds us a lot of Rose, with the same build and movement. She should
be a beautiful large pony mare and is listed on our sales page.
Maggie
just delivered a foal by Whiskey on May 12, 2007. See our news page for updated photos and information.
In addition
to the two foals by Whiskey, Caer Avallach Farm currently has Quillaine
Tica, a 1997 gray mare by Tamarack Quill out of Maggie who
currently has one foal by Whiskey that we have retained. Quillaine
Tica ("Maddie") competed successfully in Northeast as a
show pony before coming to our farm.
