2002 - The month of November kicks of a major farm renovation/redesign
building project here at Caer Avallach Farm! Ground will be broken
the week of Thanksgiving and we are looking forward to the completion
of Phase 1 by the New Year. We want to start by thanking Faith Palmerton
of MD Barns of PA for leading the barn-building side of the project,
as well as George Stone from Stone Construction who is coordinating
all of our excavation and site work. It will be a an exciting few
months for us here and we will be chronicling the project to share
with all our friends!
November
2002 - Our own Avallach's Irish Whiskey was prominently featured
in Horse Connections magazine this month representing the American
Sport Pony in an article entitled "Ponies of the World"
by author Christine DeHerrera. The article includes a full color half-page
photo of Whiskey .. we are thrilled to have our boy represent his
breed! To view the page of the article featuring Whiskey (in an Adobe

Whiskey today as our 2002 colt, Avallach's Shot Glass, was graded
at the American Sportpony Registry inspection in Millbrook, NY. Judge's

trot" and "great suspension". We were thrilled with
his performance!
August
2, 2002 - We are deeply saddened to report the loss of our
foundation mare, Celtic Twilight ("Bonnie") this evening.
Bonnie was euthanized after suffering a broken leg. Bonnie
had spent her last day participating in a "grooming contest"
during Pony Camp at Brushy Hill Farm in Southbury, where she was a
favorite camp pony. Bonnie
was the dam of "Just Kidding", the 1995 Large Pony Hunter
Champion at Devon and has spent the last half of her life as a successful
show pony with Tiffany Lindeborn, and in her semi-retirment as a lesson
pony. She will be missed ....
July-August
2002 - We are very happy to have Alisha Schuldt here for
the summer as a working student on the farm. Alisha, visiting from
California, is learning about the proper care of ponies and has taken
on all the daily responsibilities for Woodlands Maggie Mae. This includes
her daily grooming, stall and paddock cleaning, feeding and water.
Alisha has proven to be a great asset to the farm and Maggie can be
seen following her all over the farm!
In addition to
her daily duties with Maggie, Alisha is also assisting with the care
and handling of the rest of the youngsters, including getting our
newest foals used to working with children. She is shown at left with
Avallach's Last Call, foaled April 8th, who will be leaving Caer Avallach
Farm for his new home at Foxwater Farm in GA sometime in August. "LC"
as he is known, is now on Alisha's daily grooming list.
We'll be posting
more photos of Alisha with the ponies on our gallery page, and Alisha
is also keeping a journal of her time here.
May
23, 2002 - We made our annual trip to Devon this week and
had a lovely time showing our three youngsters; Random Chance, Avallach's
Irish Rose, and Winding Oaks Dreama Litl Dream. All the ponies were
so well behaved and we are thrilled to report that Rose and Chance
earned a third place ribbon in the Produce of Dam class! Visit the
Gallery page for more photos of our trip. Thanks to Jonathan and Michele
Edel of Rare Air Farm who once again handled the ponies beautifully!
May
21, 2002 - Announcing the birth of a beautiful colt to Mati
sired by Avallach's Irish Whiskey. This little one made his appearance
at 11:30 AM on the day before we headed off to the Devon Horse Show
(we think he wanted to come with us!). He is yet unnamed but is available
for purchase to an excellent home. Check out our sales page for more
photos and his pedigree.
May
4, 2002 - Congratulations to Michele Edel, our trainer from
Rare Air Farm, and Bound to B ("Mouse"), who were Reserve

Hunt Club. This was Mouse's 2nd show overall as she attended a schooling
show last month. We are thrilled and look forward to many more shows
this season!
